CONNETQUOT TEACHERS MARCH TO ‘MAKE STRIDES
AGAINST BREAST CANCER’
Current, and retired, Connetquot teachers, spouses, parents and students joined in the fight against breast cancer at the Brookhaven campus of Dowling College.
Ronkonkoma, NY --- The Connetquot Teachers Association (CTA) once again took part in the annual ‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer’ Walk, on Sunday, October 15th. Current, and retired, Connetquot teachers were joined by spouses, children, parents, and students from the John Pearl Elementary School, at the Brookhaven campus of Dowling College. Led by CTA President Tony Felicio, Jr., and membership coordinators Joanna McManaman & Lisa Manzo, Connetquot teachers demonstrated their support for the fight against cancer.
Anne Thorsen, Director of Special Events for the American Cancer Society, anticipated as many walkers this year as participated in 2011. The early morning crowds seemed destined to reach that 2,500 number! Mrs. Thorsen was very pleased with the enthusiasm of the participants, and the consistant support of the members of the Connetquot Teachers Association. According to Felicio “ … this year’s goal is to raise $2,500 for this very worthwhile program. Donations are still being accepted by the CTA through Joanna McManaman at EJ Bosti Elementary School (50 Bourne Blvd, Bohemia, NY 11716-4999).”
The CTA President thanked the teacher-coordinators, and all the teachers, spouses and children that gave up their Sunday morning to help in this important fight against cancer. “Once again Connetquot Teachers demonstrate their support for the community, and important causes. I am extremely proud of our members’ efforts today, and all community projects our teachers support. We believe that our teachers have a positive effect on our children in the classroom, and outside the schoolhouse, within the community.”
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society’s nationwide series of walking events to raise funds, and awareness, in the fight to end scourge of breast cancer. Close to 300 such ‘walks’ take place each year.
